Three members of a family, a woman and her two granddaughters were killed after being run over by an express train near the railway track between Doddaballapur and Muttur on Monday (August 31) morning.
The deceased have been identified as Irfana, 46, and her granddaughters Rukhiya, 13, and Raziya, 8, from Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh.
According to preliminary information, the girls had come to their grandmother’s house from Hindupur for the holidays. After the vacation, they were returning home when the tragedy occurred.
The family was reportedly walking towards Doddaballapur railway station from Muttur when they entered the railway track. Two railway tracks meet at a curve at the spot, and the three allegedly failed to notice the approaching express train. The train, travelling at high speed, ran over them, killing all three on the spot.
