Three men (30s) arrested and charged after armed gardaí raid four Cavan properties
Irish police have arrested three men in County Cavan following a series of violent assaults linked to an ongoing dispute between organized family groups. The operation involved armed support units and is part of a broader investigation into organized crime.
Why it matters
The use of armed police to address localized organized crime highlights the severity of the security situation in the region.
Some 40 gardaí , including armed members, executed raids on four properties in Co Cavan to arrest three men (30s) as part of an operation targeting organised crime.
The men were later charged and are due to appear before Monaghan District Court on Saturday.
The arrests are connected to Garda investigations into two “serious” assaults on three men in Cullyleenan, Ballyconnell.
The two incidents are understood to be linked to a localised dispute between organised family groups.
The first alleged assault – in the early hours of Sunday, August 2nd – left two men in their 30s with “serious, but non-life-threatening” injuries, said An Garda Síochána. The pair were brought to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.
