Three persons were killed and seven others injured after a car was hit by an omni bus on the Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway near Samayapuram on Monday night.
The names of the dead were given as P. Pandian, 49, R. Dhanalakshmi, 47, and R. Paveen, 9, all residents of Pudukkottai district.
According to the police, 10 persons were travelling in the car, including the driver, who were travelling to Samayapuram temple. The accident occurred when the driver attempted to back up the vehicle after missing a junction.
An omni bus travelling behind the car rammed it, crushing the vehicle with the occupants trapped inside. Police rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers, who were taken to nearby hospitals.
