Three people have been injured and a teenage boy has been arrested after a shotgun was fired in a town centre in what police have called a "targeted attack".
Essex Police were called to an incident in Market Place, Braintree, at about 22:10 BST on Monday.
Two teenage boys sustained serious, but not life-threatening, injuries to their face and upper body, police said, after the shooting involving two groups.
Ch Supt Rob Kirby said: "At this stage we do not believe this to be a random attack, but instead directed by one specific group towards another specific group", adding that there was no "ongoing threat to the wider public".
A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the shooting and remains in custody, police added.
