Three get seven years RI for robbery in Coimbatore

The Special Court for the trial of bomb blast cases in Coimbatore on Tuesday (September 1, 2026) sentenced three persons to seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for robbing a man of cash and his mobile phone by luring him to a secluded place for homosexual acts in 2022.
The court awarded the punishment and fine of ₹5,000 each to S. Prashanth, M. Nishanthkumar and S. Manickam.
According to the police, Prashanth contacted the complainant over the phone and asked him to come to a place on the side of the railway track near Saibaba Colony on the night of March 9, 2022. When the complainant reached the spot, Prashanth, Nishanthkumar and Manickam held him at knifepoint and assaulted him with a stick and an iron rod. They robbed him of ₹5,000 and an expensive smartphone.
