Three persons drowned in the Cauvery near Unniyur on Tuesday.

The names of the victims were given as V. Srinivasan, 64, K. Suresh, 65, and his brother Arunan, 62, of Narasimhapuram here.

According to sources, mother of Suresh and Arunan died at Narasimhapuram three days ago. They went to the banks of the Cauvery to perform rituals to their mother along with their relatives. While they went to the middle of the river, Srinivasan drowned in the water. On seeing him drowning, Suresh and Arunan made attempts to save him. However, they drowned.
