Three compulsory P.T. periods a week for school students, says Minister Rajmohan
The Tamil Nadu School Education Minister announced that schools will now mandate three periods of physical education per week. Schools may also convert two additional extracurricular periods into physical education to allow for daily activity.
Why it matters
This policy shift reflects a growing focus on student health and physical well-being within the Indian state education system.
Schools in Tamil Nadu will now have three periods of physical education and two periods of extra curricular and co-curricular activities in a week, said School Education Minister Rajmohan while releasing a revised time table in Chennai on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons, he said, “Now, there will be compulsory three periods of physical education, and the other two periods designated for extra curricular activities could also be converted to physical education periods, thereby ensuring that students can play all five days a week.” Mr. Rajmohan thanked the Chief Minister for the decision.
The Minister was holding a review meeting with all the District Education Officers on curriculum, hygiene and facilities of the schools in the districts.
