A clash between two groups of students at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) during Teej celebrations on Thursday (September 3, 2026) night left several students injured and led to a protest at the university’s main gate.
The trouble began around 9 p.m. on Thursday after a third-year mechanical engineering student allegedly made objectionable remarks about a female student. When her friends confronted him, an argument broke out and turned physical, police said.
The situation escalated again after midnight, with students from the Gautami and Manjeera hostels attacking each other with sticks and resorting to stone-pelting. The clashes continued into the early hours of Friday, following which students gathered at the university’s main gate demanding action against those involved.
KPHB police reached the campus after receiving a Dial-112 emergency call and intervened to bring the situation under control. Three cases were registered in connection with the incident.
