The Karungalpalayam police have arrested three persons, including a 16-year-old boy, in connection with an assault during a Ganesha idol immersion procession on Cauvery Road here on Thursday (September 17, 2026) night.
According to the police, Kanishkar, 18, of Veerappampalayam, was participating in the procession in the Alagarasan Nagar area when he allegedly collided with a group of youngsters while dancing.
Following this, the youngsters allegedly picked a quarrel with him, abused and assaulted him. They allegedly pushed him to the ground and kicked him before hitting him on the back of his head with a stone. Kanishkar sustained injuries in the assault. His friend was also allegedly attacked.
The incident led to a commotion in the area. Some members of the public recorded the incident on their mobile phones and circulated the video on social media.
