THRDC calls for stronger accountability in criminal justice system

THE Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) has called on the Government to continue improving the criminal justice system by strengthening transparency, accountability and the protection of citizens’ rights.
The call was made in Dar es Salaam by THRDC National Coordinator Advocate Onesmo Olengurumwa while presenting 13 recommendations aimed at improving human rights in the country.
Among the recommendations is strengthening mechanisms for receiving and investigating complaints against security agencies while ensuring the protection of complainants and witnesses.
THRDC also called for improved management of police stations and detention facilities, including maintaining accurate records of detainees and ensuring their access to medical care, lawyers and communication with relatives.
