Thousands of residents have been displaced in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, and several other communities following flooding caused by torrential rainfall. In Osogbo, affected areas include Capital, Baruwa, Oke-Ayepe, Sasa, Ijetu, Famson Street and Gbodofon, among others. Several communities outside the state capital were also affected, including Osunjela, Mukoro in Ilesa, Ijaregbe in Ijesa-Obokun and Kuti-Iwo. The residence of Nigerian Tribune correspondent, Dr Adeolu Adeyemo, in the Capital area was among those affected, forcing him and his family members to evacuate. Adeyemo said he left home for work on Tuesday morning but returned to find his residence in Zone 10 completely submerged.
