Why it matters
These petitions highlight ongoing land rights, infrastructure, and social welfare issues affecting rural communities.
Farmers from Ayanrajapatti, Masarpatti, Keelnattukurichi and Kailasapuram villages on Monday submitted a petition at the Collectorate here, alleging that high voltage transmission towers were being installed on their agricultural lands without their permission.
The petition was submitted at the weekly grievance redressal meeting chaired by Collector Vishu Mahajan.
The farmers said a private company was installing high voltage transmission towers across agricultural lands in their villages without obtaining their prior consent. Since, the towers would affect agricultural activities, they must shift the proposed alignment to another area.
In another petition, residents of Kootampuli village near Thoothukudi said that seven goats went missing on September 26, and more animals in the past few days. They alleged that unidentified people arrived in expensive cars and stole the goats, and there was CCTV footage of the incidents. Though complaints had been lodged with the police, no action had been taken.
