The Principal District and Sessions Court in Thoothukudi on Thursday has dismissed the bail plea of Vilathikulam DMK MLA G.V. Markandayan, who is in judicial custody after being arrested in a case for allegedly making derogatory and intimidating remarks against Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
The MLA was arrested by Thoothukudi District Branch Police on July 20, following a complaint lodged by Thoothukudi North District Secretary of TVK, Balasubramanian. A case was registered against him under three sections and he was remanded to judicial custody at the central prison in Palayamkottai on the same day.
His earlier bail petition was dismissed by the Thoothukudi Judicial Magistrate Court-I on July 22.
