Thoothukudi court adjourns DMK MLA Markandayan’s bail plea to July 30

The Principal District and Sessions Court in Thoothukudi on Wednesday adjourned to Thursday the hearing of a bail plea filed by Vilathikulam DMK MLA G.V. Markandayan, who is in judicial custody after being arrested in a case for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
The case was registered against the MLA under three sections by the Thoothukudi District Crime Branch police for making the remarks against the Chief Minister during the party’s public meeting to thank the voters held in Kovilpatti on July 18.
Mr. Markandayan was arrested on July 20 and remanded in the central prison in Palayamkottai.
Subsequently on July 22, a court in Thoothukudi dismissed the bail petition of Mr. Markandayan and rejected the police’s plea seeking his custody.
