Thoothukudi Corporation civic workers to go on strike from October 5
The Rural Development and Local Bodies Workers’ Union in Thoothukudi has announced a strike starting October 5 to demand proper Provident Fund (PF) contributions. Workers are seeking transparency and regular deposits for both direct and outsourced employees.

The Rural Development and Local Bodies Workers’ Union has announced a strike from Monday (October 5), pressing for various demands, including deduction of Provident Fund (PF) contributions from the wages of direct daily wage workers employed by the Thoothukudi corporation.
As part of the agitation, the union submitted a petition to Corporation Commissioner S. Priyanka on Thursday.
More than 400 direct daily-wage workers, including sanitation workers, drivers, DBC workers, computer operators, and drinking water project workers are employed by Thoothukudi corporation.
Following the union’s demand, Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) contributions are being deducted from their wages. The union has now demanded that PF contributions also be deducted regularly and credited to worker’s PF accounts.
