This Kind Of Fatigue Can Make Exercise Feel Harder — Without Changing Your Strength You finish a long day of meetings, emails, decisions, and intense focus, and suddenly your usual workout feels like a terrible idea. Your body hasn't done anything physically demanding, but you still feel completely spent.
In a recent study , researchers looked at why this happens. They wanted to know whether a tired brain actually reduces physical capacity or simply makes exercise feel harder.
Eighteen adults completed the same cycling test twice. Before one session, they spent an hour on a mentally demanding task requiring sustained attention. Before the other, they watched a neutral documentary.
After each activity, participants cycled at a challenging, fixed intensity until they couldn't continue.
Researchers tracked how long they lasted, how difficult the exercise felt, and how much their leg muscles activated using sensors placed on the muscles.
