Third year since Naidu’s arrest: September 9 a ‘dark day’ for Telugu people, says TDP chief

TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao marked the third anniversary of N. Chandrababu Naidu's 2023 arrest as a 'dark day' for Telugu people. He criticized the previous YSRCP government for what he described as politically motivated and illegal actions.
Why it matters
This reflects the ongoing political polarization and historical grievances between major political parties in Andhra Pradesh.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Andhra Pradesh State president Palla Srinivasa Rao has said that September 9, the day on which the then Leader of the Opposition and TDP National President N. Chandrababu Naidu was arrested in 2023, would remain an unforgettable dark day in the history of the Telugu people.
“The arrest and harassment of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, a leader devoted to public service, was politically motivated and the illegal cases registered against him was a reflection of the authoritarian conduct of the then YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government,” Mr. Srinivasa Rao said in a statement on Wednesday (September 9, 2026).
