Third suspect, a boda rider, arrested as detectives dig deeper into lawyer Mbobu murder

Detectives have arrested a third suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, widening an investigation into the killing that has continued for a year.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the latest suspect is a boda boda rider suspected of conducting surveillance on Mbobu before he was fatally shot along Magadi Road on September 9, 2025.

The arrest follows those of a police officer suspected of being the gunman and another boda boda rider suspected of ferrying the officer to and from the scene.

With three suspects now in custody, detectives said they were intensifying efforts to establish whether other people may have played a role in the killing.

"The latest arrest followed sustained investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mbobu’s death," DCI said.

The agency said the rider is suspected of having conducted surveillance on the lawyer before the shooting.
