The seven-day theatrical adaptation of K. Prabhushankar’s work Beragu , staged as part of Shivanubhava Sapthaha from August 14 to 20, organised by Basava Kendra in Shivamogga, drew a strong response from audiences here.
The production was staged by artists of Native Theatre under the direction of R.S. Halaswamy. The text deals with the life and struggles of Basavanna, the 12th century social reformer, including the resistance and criticism he faced during his fight against caste-based inequality. Mr. Halaswamy and his team divided the text into seven parts, presenting one each day over the course of the programme, in what many in the audience called an effective rendition.
