Inspired by the Ryder Cup golf tournament, the Laver Cup was created by Roger Federer 's management company, TEAM8, Brazilian businessman Jorge Paulo Lemann, and Tennis Australia.
The event, named after tennis legend Rod Laver, features two sides, Team Europe and Team World, pitted against each other in a series of singles and doubles matches spanning three days.
Its first edition was in 2017, and since then, the competition has gone from strength to strength, attracting the world's very best players every season.
In 2018, Federer was asked to give an explanation for why he wanted to create the Laver Cup.
As per Tennis World USA , Federer said: " I just wanted everybody to have a really nice time, a good time, and celebrate tennis.
