The Michelin Keys in India: What one, two, and three Keys mean

The Michelin Guide has expanded its prestigious rating system to include hotels, awarding 'Keys' to 36 properties in India. The article explores the criteria used by inspectors, such as design, service quality, and character, through a personal review of selected hotels.
Why it matters
This marks a significant shift in luxury hospitality standards, providing a new global benchmark for high-end travel experiences beyond traditional star ratings.
In early October 2025, Michelin awarded Keys to 2,457 hotels worldwide. In India, 36 received recognition.

This hierarchy, while demanding, is largely within the hotel’s control.
