The bright light beside the moon had people looking up this morning

A bright light observed near the moon by residents in Nova Scotia was identified as a planet, likely Jupiter or Venus. The article encourages skywatching during clear fall mornings and provides context on the visibility of planets.
Why it matters
Public interest in astronomy fosters community engagement and appreciation for natural phenomena.
I saw this on the drive in this morning! A small, very bright light next to the Moon. At first, I assumed it was a UFO, but alas, it was just a planet.
After doing some research, it appears several planets are especially visible this time of year. While it’s difficult to say for certain which one it was without knowing the exact time and location, it was likely Jupiter or Venus, both of which can appear much brighter than any star in the sky.
Clear fall mornings are some of the best times for skywatching, and when the Moon appears close to a bright planet, it creates a beautiful sight that’s hard to miss.
