Thattanchavady faces bypoll for second time in a short span
The Thattanchavady constituency in Puducherry is set for a bypoll on October 6 following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. The AINRC has decided to field former legislator Ashok Anand, whose previous conviction in an assets case was recently set aside by the High Court.

While the latest bypoll was necessitated following the decision of Chief Minister and All INRC founder N. Rangasamy to resign from Thattanchavady seat after retaining the second constituency of Mangalam that he won in the April 2026 Assembly polls, the earlier byelection was an after effect of a judicial process in 2018.
