The Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation has purchased a 650-acre lakeside ranch from the Pollard family for over $10 million. The land, which has been in the family since 1940, is slated to become a new state park by 2027.
Why it matters
The conversion of private land into a public state park preserves natural resources and expands recreational access for the public.
A family-owned ranch on Lake Palestine in East Texas is set to become a new state park, following the purchase of 650 acres by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation. The October 2026 acquisition, reported by The Texas Tribune and supported by announcements from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, secures a substantial stretch of lakefront for future public recreation and conservation. The property in Henderson County has belonged to the Pollard family since 1940. Once associated with the family’s Texas Pecan Nursery business, the ranch has served as a place for growing pecans, hunting, fishing and gathering across generations.
