The significance of these releases goes beyond the individual resources being added. AWS continues to expand its infrastructure portfolio at a pace that makes the provider an increasingly important abstraction layer between AWS APIs and enterprise infrastructure-as-code practices. Terraform is no longer simply provisioning EC2 instances, networks, and S3 buckets; the provider is increasingly representing higher-level capabilities around AI, resilience, security, databases, and application services.

The AWS provider's rapid evolution also highlights an important difference between Terraform and competing approaches. Pulumi provides a similar multi-cloud infrastructure model, but allows engineers to define infrastructure using general-purpose languages such as TypeScript, Python, Go, C# and Java in addition to YAML and HCL. Pulumi also supports Terraform providers directly, meaning organisations can combine Pulumi's programming model with the broader Terraform provider ecosystem.
