Tenure of coastal police wardens extended

The Kerala government has extended the service tenure of 141 coastal police wardens by one year, until June 30, 2027. These wardens, recruited from the local fishing community, provide essential support for maritime rescue and lifesaving operations.

This decision ensures the continued safety and emergency response capabilities for coastal regions in Kerala by retaining experienced personnel.
The Kerala government has extended the service tenure of coastal police wardens by one year until June 30, 2027.
In 2019, the then government had decided to appoint 177 coastal wardens on a contract basis across 18 coastal police stations in the State, to assist coastal police in lifesaving and rescue operations.
These wardens were drawn from the fishing community and they had played an indispensable role in rescuing people from accidents at sea and during other maritime emergencies.
