Two men were shot dead and another reported missing after an armed group attacked camel herders near Ngatho Dam along the border of Igembe North and Igembe Central in Meru County, officials said.
The incident occurred on August 25, 2026, when a group of about 30 armed men reportedly descended on the camel herders’ manyatta and opened an attack.
This has sparked tension in the area amid fears of more such attacks and retaliations. This follows rising numbers of herders in the area, officials said.
Police officers visited the scene following an earlier report of a shooting incident.
The officers were led to the scene where they found the bodies of two men identified as Bishar Matan, 80, and Abdi Sagwi, 35.
