Tennessee prison chief who oversaw botched execution of Christa Pike resigns

Tennessee prison commissioner Frank Strada has resigned following a botched execution attempt of death row inmate Christa Pike. Governor Bill Lee has suspended all further executions in the state for the remainder of the year pending a review.

The prison commissioner in Tennessee has resigned over the botched execution of convicted murderer Christa Pike, Governor Bill Lee said.
Lee said in a statement that commissioner Frank Strada would leave his post this month.
Pike’s lawyers say she is in critical condition, unconscious and on a ventilator in a United States hospital, after her execution by lethal injection went wrong on Thursday NZT.
Pike, 50, survived two injections of the normally lethal substance pentobarbital as punishment for the murder of Colleen Slemmer in 1995.
