Tenkasi District Collector inspects onion storage points ahead of northeast monsoon
District Collector Ranjeet Singh inspected the onion storage points in Sankarankovil taluk on Wednesday as the northeast monsoon is likely to start in mid-October.
Since the farmers take-up onion cultivation in a big way in the southern and northern parts of Tenkasi district during monsoons, specially designed storage points for onions, a highly perishable agricultural produce, are being constructed. Since these ventilated storage points should have controlled temperature and humidity to avoid loss and keep onions in good shape for 60 days during summer and up to 180 days during winter or fall, the storage point should be built carefully by conforming stipulated standards.
Hence, the Collector inspected these onion storage points as he reviewed the ongoing development works in Sankarankovil taluk on Wednesday.
