HYDERABAD: Telangana has once again emerged as the country’s highest alcohol-consuming large state, with nearly one in every two adult men reporting alcohol use, according to the latest National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6). The findings underline the state’s persistent lead over the rest of the country and point to a strong rural consumption pattern that continues to drive the numbers.As many as 43.9% of men aged 15 years and above in Telangana reported consuming alcohol in NFHS-6, more than double the national average of 18.9%. Despite a marginal decline from the previous survey round, Telangana has retained its position at the top among larger states.In NFHS-5, 50% of men aged 15-49 years in Telangana reported consuming alcohol, compared with the national average of 22.4%.
