Telangana’s FLN reforms receive global recognition

The State government’s efforts to strengthen Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) have received international recognition at the Lighthouse India Immersion Programme 2026 in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Principal Secretary (Education) Yogita Rana presented the State’s FLN experience at the programme, which brought together governments and organisations from the Global South to exchange lessons on improving foundational learning at scale.
Ms. Rana highlighted Telangana’s focus on learning outcomes through grade-wise goals, aligned teaching materials, teacher-led assessments, mentoring, remediation, system reviews and parent engagement. She said foundational learning requires continuous attention, with assessments used to guide teaching rather than judge students.
Lessons from Telangana’s participation in the 2025 Lighthouse immersion in Sobral, Brazil, have also shaped reforms, including a structured one-hour daily remediation and enrichment block for Classes I - V, she added.
