The Telangana Pradesh Mahila Congress, led by president Errabelli Swarna, on Tuesday staged a protest at Gandhi Bhavan, demanding the withdrawal of the FIR registered against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and action against BJP and RSS workers over the alleged humiliation of dalit community members in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Swarna alleged that the FIR against Mr. Gandhi reflected the BJP’s “vindictive politics”. She also demanded registration of a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against those allegedly involved in “purifying” with Ganga water the place where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge sat during a public meeting.

Mahila Congress leaders attempted to organise a rally under the banner of “Dar Mat” from Gandhi Bhavan but were stopped by the police, following which they staged a protest in front of the premises.
