Telangana HC directs CCS police not to take coercive action against Krishank

The Telangana High Court has granted interim relief to BRS leader Manne Krishank, directing police to avoid coercive action regarding a case involving alleged defamatory statements about the Chief Minister's family. The court emphasized the need for police to follow established legal guidelines and conduct preliminary inquiries before taking further steps.
Why it matters
This case touches on the intersection of political speech, social media regulation, and the procedural requirements for police investigations in India.
Justice T. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) directed the Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS) officials not to take any coercive steps against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Manne Krishank in a crime registered over the alleged false allegations he made during a press conference over assets acquired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s family members.
The judge instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crimes) to serve notices on Krishank as per section 35 (3) of Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita-2023 in the crime. The judge also said the police should follow the guidelines laid down by the apex court in Arnesh Kumar vs State of Bihar. She noted that the Supreme Court in the Lalitha Kumari case held that police should make preliminary enquiries before issuing a First Information Report (FIR).
