Telangana fine-tunes Hyderabad policing map with new zones, divisions

The Telangana government has reorganized policing jurisdictions in Hyderabad, creating a new Uppal Law and Order Zone and three new divisions. These changes aim to improve administrative efficiency and response times following the restructuring of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Why it matters
Administrative restructuring of police forces is critical for maintaining law and order in rapidly expanding urban metropolitan areas.
Nine months after a major reorganisation of policing jurisdictions across Hyderabad and its suburbs, the Telangana government has fine-tuned the map again, creating a new Uppal Law and Order Zone along with three new divisions, while revising police station, traffic and Women Safety Wing jurisdictions across Hyderabad, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad commissionerates.
The Home Department issued three government orders on September 30, modifying parts of the reorganisation notified in December 2025. The fresh exercise was taken up in view of the restructuring of GHMC, with the government citing the need for better policing efficiency, supervision, response time and law and order management.
The most substantial structural changes are in Malkajgiri Commissionerate, where the Begumpet Law and Order zone has been officially absorbed under Malkajgiri zone and a new Uppal Zone created.
