TECNO CAMON 50 uses Universal Tone 3.0 to capture true-to-life complexions in global portrait project

TECNO has launched a portrait project in Kenya featuring the CAMON 50 smartphone, which utilizes 'Universal Tone 3.0' technology. The project aims to showcase the camera's ability to accurately capture diverse skin tones and textures in various lighting conditions.
Why it matters
This highlights the intersection of mobile technology and social inclusivity, focusing on how AI-driven imaging can better represent diverse populations.
TECNO has concluded the Kenyan chapter of 100 Portraits of Becoming, a global portrait project created with Brazilian artist and photographer Angélica Dass. Captured using the TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra, the opening collection features 20 Kenyans across different complexions, environments and everyday lighting conditions.
At the centre of the project is Universal Tone 3.0, CAMON 50’s multi-skin-tone imaging technology. It is designed to render skin tone and texture more naturally across varied complexions, lighting conditions and multi-person scenes. The portraits turn that capability into visible, local proof by showing people in the places where their lives and work unfold.
