Techie Kavin caste killing case: Parents begin protest over quashing of final report against parents of prime accused Surjith

The parents of Kavin Selvaganesh have launched a protest in Thoothukudi following a Madras High Court decision to quash the final report against the parents of the prime accused in their son's caste-based murder case. The grieving parents are demanding a deeper investigation, alleging potential police involvement in the destruction of evidence, and have called for government intervention to appeal the court's ruling.
Why it matters
This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding systemic justice and accountability in caste-related violence cases in India, particularly when allegations of police complicity are involved.
The parents of slain software engineer Kavin Selvaganesh began a protest in front of their house in Arumugamangalam in Thoothukudi district on Thursday, condemning the quashing of the final report against the parents of prime accused S. Surjith in the murder case.
Two days ago, the Madurai bench of Madras High Court quashed the final report against Saravanan and Krishnakumari, the parents of Surjith. Condemning the order, Kavin’s parents Chandrasekar and Tamilselvi began a protest in Arumugamangalam.
Speaking to the media, Ms. Tamilselvi said, “What have we been fighting for all these days? The charge sheet has been quashed stating there is insufficient evidence. If so, where is the justice for us?”
The protesting parents questioned how the arrests were made in the first place if there was insufficient evidence in the case.
