NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday accused Delhi Police of forcibly detaining its activists and dragging protesters attempting to reach Jantar Mantar for a demonstration demanding Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.More than 7,000 people were detained across the national capital, while six police personnel were injured after stones were allegedly hurled at two locations. Police are also set to register an FIR in connection with the alleged assault on personnel.In a post accompanying a video purportedly showing police detaining activists and taking them away, CJP said: “CJP’S TEAM FORCEFULLY DETAINED!”“Delhi Police is pushing, dragging and detaining people for peacefully protesting!” the party wrote, adding, “Is peacefully raising your voice a crime now?”CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, co-convener Saurav Das and leader Ashutosh Ranka were detained aboard their flight after it landed at Delhi airport, according to the party.
