Teacher arrested for sexual harassment of student in Madurai

A former physics teacher and a school principal in Madurai have been booked under the POCSO Act for sexual harassment and failure to report child abuse. The teacher was arrested after allegations surfaced regarding his conduct toward a student.

A former Physics teacher of a private higher secondary school in Viraganoor was arrested on Thursday on the charge of sexually harassing a girl student in 2025.
The teacher was charged with constantly following the girl.
The police said preliminary inquiries revealed that some students had taken up the issue with the principal in 2025. However, the principal had failed to report the case to the police as mandated by law.
A police source said the teacher was sent out of the school after the issue was reported to the principal.
The school principal has also been booked in the case on charges of abetment and for failing to report child sexual abuse.
