Senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former Chittoor Municipal Corporation corporator Cherukuri Vasanth Kumar, 50, died of a cardiac arrest in Bengaluru on Monday (August 24, 2026).

His mortal remains were brought to Chittoor and cremated on Tuesday (August 25) at his native village, Peddakalva, in the Gangadhara Nellore Assembly constituency. Vasanth Kumar was reportedly being considered a contender for the upcoming Chittoor mayoral election.

The sudden death left his family in shock. His father and paternal uncle were hospitalised on Tuesday after reportedly suffering health complications following the news. Vasanth Kumar’s wife also fainted while funeral arrangements were underway and was rushed to a hospital in Chittoor.
