TCS sees no impact from U.S. green card programme suspension on workforce strategy
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) stated that the U.S. suspension of the PERM green card program will not impact its workforce strategy or client engagements. The company noted that its reliance on the program is minimal and it remains committed to its goal of hiring 15,000 local employees in the U.S. over the next five years.
Why it matters
This highlights how major Indian IT firms are adjusting their operational strategies in response to shifting U.S. immigration policies and visa regulations.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s top IT services exporter, said on Friday (October 9, 2026) that it does not expect the U.S. suspension of the Permanent Labour Certification (PERM) programme for IT companies to have any material impact on its workforce strategy or client engagements.
The statement comes after the U.S. on Thursday (October 8, 2026) suspended IT firms, including Tata, from the PERM programme, which allows companies to apply for green cards for H-1B visa workers. The other companies named were Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Capgemini, Microsoft and Adobe.
“Our PERM applications were in single digits in the last two years and hence we do not expect the suspension of the program to impact our workforce strategy and customer engagements,” TCS said in its statement.
