The mother of Tauranga teenager Loukas Rainger has been admitted to hospital in Thailand with blood poisoning and pneumonia, as her son prepares to appear in court later today.
Rainger, 18, was arrested after picking up someone else’s watch in an airport security tray while on holiday in Thailand. He spent six days in jail before he was released on bail.
The teen is due to appear before the Surat Thani Provincial Court today, with his family hoping the charge will be dismissed and he will finally be allowed to return to New Zealand.
The charge he faces carries a penalty of up to five years in prison if convicted.
In an update posted to the family’s Givealittle page yesterday, family member Melissa Pronk said she was “shocked and worried” after his mother, Natasha Rainger, had fallen seriously ill and was admitted to hospital.
