Tata Motors, Stellantis deepen partnership to develop global vehicles in India
Tata Motors and Stellantis have signed a definitive agreement to collaborate on advanced vehicle technology and product development. The partnership aims to leverage Indian engineering and manufacturing capabilities to produce vehicles for over 50 global markets.
Why it matters
This deal strengthens India's position as a global automotive manufacturing hub and highlights the trend of international automakers partnering with local firms for global scale.
Stellantis India, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV) and its subsidiary, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd (TPEM), on Monday signed a definitive agreement to expand their partnership into advanced vehicle technology and product development.
Under the agreement, TMPV will provide Stellantis access to its advanced product technology and vehicle architecture. Stellantis will leverage its product development and engineering capabilities in India to develop vehicles for more than 50 global markets, catering to diverse customer preferences, regulatory requirements and operating conditions.
Vehicles developed under the agreement will be manufactured in India at Fiat India Automobiles Private Ltd (FIAPL), the 50:50 joint venture between TMPV and Stellantis.
The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed in February 2026 to explore collaboration in manufacturing, engineering and supply chains in India and overseas.
