TASMAC to procure beer, IMFS equally from all suppliers

The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) has announced a new policy to procure liquor equally from all state suppliers to ensure equitable distribution. The policy also shifts inventory management to be based on actual retail sales data rather than depot-based formulas.
Why it matters
This change aims to reduce political favoritism in state-run liquor procurement and improve supply chain efficiency for retail outlets.
The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) will start procuring beer and India Made Foreign Spirits (IMFS) Ordinary equally from all the suppliers in the State. Earlier, liquor was procured from select manufacturers depending on which party was in power. The State has 11 distilleries and six breweries. IMFS Ordinary includes brandy and rum.
This will also be piloted at Elite Shops in seven locations including Chennai Central, South and North; Coimbatore North and South and Madurai North and South. For malls located in these locations atleast one case of every brand under the premium category shall invariably be supplied.
