Taoiseach to highlight Irish contribution in New York

Ireland's EU Commissioner Michael McGrath will raise the issue of the safety of politicians and the threat to democracy of AI-generated disinformation during a series of meetings on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York.

He will also address the growing threat of online scams and fraud, as well as forthcoming EU legislation to protect children in the realm of online retail.

The commissioner, whose portfolio covers democracy, justice, the rule of law and consumer protection, will meet New York’s chief deputy Attorney General Chris D’Angelo as well as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, Under-Secretary-General for Policy Guy Ryder, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Fleming, and the UN’s Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies Amandeep Singh Gill.
