Tanzania surpasses 2030 avocado export target four years early

TANZANIA has surpassed its 2030 avocado export target four years ahead of schedule after shipping 52,000 tonnes of the fruit during the 2025/2026 season, exceeding the original projection of 40,000 tonnes.
The achievement marks a 237 per cent increase from the 15,432.77 tonnes exported in the 2020/2021 season, significantly boosting the crop’s contribution to the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
Earnings from avocado exports rose by 120.4 per cent over the same period, increasing from US$44.2 million to US$97.2 million. Domestic avocado production also grew by 36.24 per cent, from 149,340 tonnes to 203,473 tonnes.
Daniel Chongolo, Minister for Agriculture made the observation when opening the Third National Avocado Stakeholders’ Forum in Dodoma yesterday.
He said the performance demonstrated the growing importance of avocados to employment, investment, farmers’ incomes and foreign exchange generation.
