Tanzania sets a new target to reduce maternal deaths to below 70 per 100,000 live births

MOROGORO: THE Tanzanian government has set a new target to reduce maternal deaths to fewer than 70 per 100,000 live births by 2030/31 as it steps up efforts to improve maternal and child health.

Assistant Director for Child and Adolescent Health in the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Department, Dr Felix Bundala, revealed this stating that the target is part of the strategic plan being prepared for 2026/27–2030/31.

Speaking during the opening of a workshop in Morogoro to prepare the five-year RMNCAH One Plan IV, Dr Bundala said the new plan will accelerate implementation of interventions aimed at reducing deaths among mothers, newborns and children under five.
