Tanzania’s annual headline inflation rose to 4.3% in August 2026, up from 4.2% recorded in July, according to data released on 08th September, 2026, by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The figure is measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), which tracks price changes across a fixed basket of 383 goods and services, comprising 132 food and non-alcoholic beverage items and 251 non-food items, with prices collected from all 26 regional headquarters on the Tanzanian mainland.
The overall NCPI rose from 119.77 in August 2025 to 124.93 in August 2026, reflecting a continued upward trend in the general price level.
The annual Headline Inflation Rate fluctuated between 3.2% and 4.3% throughout the 12-month period from August 2025 to August 2026, with the 4.3% recorded in August 2026 being the highest rate over the period.
