Tanzania ends temporary measures after EU air ban

The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority is ending temporary measures implemented after the European Commission banned Tanzanian airlines from EU airspace. The regulator cited evolving operational needs for the decision, despite the ongoing safety ban.
Why it matters
The move reflects the ongoing struggle of Tanzanian aviation to meet international safety standards and regain access to the European market.
The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) will withdraw temporary measures it introduced to preserve connectivity after the European Commission banned all airlines certified in Tanzania from European Union airspace in June last year. The TCAA's decision will come into force on November 1, 2026.
Jabiri K Bakari, TCAA director general, cited "evolving operational circumstances" and a "reduced need for the temporary arrangements" as reasons for the regulator's decision.
