Tanker attacks, harassment and mine risks continue in Strait of Hormuz

Twitter Email Linkedin Three security incidents involving tankers were reported to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) between 30 and 31 August 2026, including two attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and a separate encounter with a military aircraft in the Indian Ocean, the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) has informed.
O n 30 August, UKMTO reported that the BURGAN was involved in a security incident while transiting westbound through the Strait of Hormuz before anchoring. US NCAGS confirmed that the vessel had been struck on the starboard aft ballast tank by an unknown projectile. No crew casualties were reported, and a tug was dispatched to assist.
Also on 30 August, UKMTO reported an attack on the SENEGAL PROSPERITY while it was transiting southbound through the Strait of Hormuz, approximately four nautical miles from the coast of Oman.
