Tampa City Council member releases video ‘busting myths’ on Rays stadium proposal - Tampa Bay Times

In a video released Wednesday, Tampa City Council member Lynn Hurtak said she is “pretty much the target market” for a new Tampa Bay Rays stadium in Tampa.She could ride her bicycle to games if the proposal went through, she said. She and her husband bought season tickets to see the Tampa Bay Rays in lieu of a honeymoon, she added.“But we should reject it,” Hurtak said. “It’s a rip-off for Tampa taxpayers.”The council member has consistently opposed the project. Her six-minute video comes less than a day before the City Council is set to vote on the proposed stadium deal. She posted the video to “explain why it’s a rip-off for taxpayers and to confront what this deal really means,” she said.She talked about possible effects on the city’s tourism and jobs and how the proposed Rays payments would take away from other city needs.
